Employer-funded supervision

Clinical and professional supervision separate from line management is the gold standard in health professional practice. Many employers, large and small, make a commitment to fund external professional supervision for their staff outside the organisation. Many mental health services allow external supervision for OT's, other clinicians or managers who are health professionals by background. If you are an employer, this will enhance your employees skill base and professionalism, and be a valuable bonus to attract the right employees to your service. You will be developing high quality clinicians as lifelong learners rather than just employees meeting a KPI. If you're a clinician or manager or even on an executive team but wanting additional professional connection and not sure whether this could apply to you, ask your employer! Sessions can be invoiced directly to the employer or to the supervisee, depending on your needs. Group sessions are also available for teams.

✧

Self Funded Supervision

Sole practitioners and small practice OTs benefit from regular Professional Supervision to guide their career in private practice and stay connected. Sessions around particular complex cases or specific mental health related caseload issues are also available - these can be intertwined with your regular supervision, or be a stand alone session. You can also sign up for one of the group sessions that are available at various times during the year. Don't forget that you can use your Professional Supervision hours to meet the CPD requirements for AHPRA and OT Australia requirements. Increase your impact and develop skills within a trusted supportive supervision relationship to build your awesome practice.

COMMON QUESTIONS

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between clinical supervision and line management?

Line management focuses on operational tasks, workload and performance within your organisation. Clinical supervision is a reflective, profession-focused space separate from that reporting line, where you can explore your practice, skills and wellbeing confidentially with an experienced supervisor.

Do I need clinical supervision to meet my AHPRA registration requirements?

AHPRA doesn't mandate supervision hours for all registered practitioners, but many professional bodies and CPD frameworks recognise supervision hours toward your annual CPD requirements. Supervision is also often required for provisional or early-career practitioners — check your specific registration standard.

Can my employer pay for my clinical supervision?

Yes, many employers fund external professional supervision for their staff, invoiced directly to the organisation. If you're unsure whether this applies to you, it's worth asking your manager or HR team — it's increasingly recognised as best practice.

Do you provide supervision for clinicians who aren't occupational therapists?

Yes. While my own background is occupational therapy, I supervise mental health clinicians, social workers and other allied health professionals, drawing on broad cross-disciplinary clinical experience.

Why is external clinical supervision important if my workplace already has support in place?

Internal support is valuable, but external supervision offers an independent, confidential space free from workplace politics or line-management dynamics, which can allow for more open and honest reflective practice.

Is supervision available online?

Yes. Supervision can be conducted securely via telehealth Australia-wide, with occasional face-to-face meet ups where practical, or fully in person in Adelaide.

What approaches or frameworks are used in supervision sessions?

Sessions draw on a mix of case-based reflection, psychotherapy, CBT and narrative therapy informed approaches, combined with occupational therapy perspectives — tailored to what's most useful for you and your context.
